Basic Life Support (BLS) is emergency medical care provided by first responders, healthcare providers, and public safety professionals to persons experiencing respiratory or cardiac arrest. BLS is for licensed healthcare professionals such as doctors, nurses, and dental professionals. It is NOT for child care and elder care professional since it doesn’t have First Aid.

BLS includes Adult/Child/Infant CPR, use of automated external defibrillators (AEDs), and techniques to relieve airway obstruction in patients of every age. Since licensed health care professionals are already educated on how to respond in first aid situations, it does NOT include First Aid.

How to BLS Certified

Pick Your Format

We offer in-person and blended self paced online BLS training. You can join a class or host the class and we will come to your facility if you have a group.

Sign Up or Book

Sign up for the course or book a date to host your training. Then take the course and/or have your staff take the course. For online BLS, a skills check in also required.

Onsite In-Person Training

Training scheduled at your office, at your convenience.

In the metro Atlanta or Augusta area, we ask for a group of 6 or more during the week, 12 or more on the weekend. In other areas, the minimum class size varies.

Participants earn a two year ASHI certification upon completion. Meets the requirements for dental professionals in Georgia and South Carolina.

$40 per person. Minimum is required.

Blended Online Training

Blended online training allows you to do the instruction portion of the training from the comfort of your home. This also works great if you do not have enough for the minimum.

Coursework is done online. It is a self-paced class that can be done at your convenience.
After completing the online coursework, participants will complete a hands-on skills check.
The hands-on portion is done in small groups and takes about 20 minutes per group.
There are NO REFUNDS for the online training once they are entered into the ASHI system. Please double-check your list before registering.

$45 per person. No minimum is required.

What is a Skills Check?

For blended online BLS training, you must also have hands on practice. This in-person portion is called a skills check. This is done after completing your online training. Watch the video to see what these look like. We have locations across Georgia and South Carolina.

This is almost always done outside.

If you would like to host an on-site skills check, there is a $50 fee (total); this is waived if you have 6 or more people. You can request one here.

BLS Training FAQ

Who is BLS Training for?

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required for individuals involved in healthcare and emergency response roles where advanced resuscitation techniques may be required. This is not for most people and again only for healthcare settings.

Is Online CPR / BLS Training Okay?

In short, the answer is “Yes, blended training meets the requirements for those in Georgia”, but there are a few things to note. To meet the requirements for most jobs, it must be a blended training. Blended training means that there is an online instruction potion AND a hands on portion with an instructor. The online portion can be either at your own pace or live via a web conferencing software like Zoom.

Can You Handle Large Groups

Yes, while our average class is around 15 students. We regularly teach groups of 50 or even 100 or more. When we have large groups like this, we bring extra instructors and mannequins to take care of your group well. Book a class here.

What is BLS Training Like?

In BLS, you will learn how to how to perform CPR, respond to choking, and use an AED. We will also go over how to use an ambu bag, Narcan and other higher-level skills. You will get hands on experience with CPR, choking maneuvers, and the AED to make sure you feel confident with the skills taught.

There is a test at the end due to the BLS training requirements. The class takes about 2.5 hours.

All of our BLS trainings are fun and interactive, helping participants learn and have fun doing it.

Do I Need BLS or CPR / First Aid?

Unless you are a health care professional, then you will need CPR and First Aid because BLS does NOT include first aid, which is required for most jobs including child care and elder care.

Is CPR Training Important?

Yes, it is very important. Learning CPR is important because about 356,000 people have a cardiac arrest outside of the hospital each year inside the United States, and close to 90% of them die. This means around 320,400 don’t survive cardiac arrest due to a lack of CPR and the use of an AED.
